Finance Assistant

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role will be responsible for providing an accurate and timely Payroll service to the site. The role will take full responsibility for all elements of Payroll and Pensions administration and provide additional support to the Finance team.
 
  • · Processing end to end monthly payroll within set timescales for 260+ employees
  • · Complete RTI submissions for HMRC
  • · Carrying out data activities including new starters, tax codes, holidays and salary changes
  • · Pension administration and auto enrolment
  • · Accurate reconciliation of voluntary and statutory deductions
  • · Handle payroll queries in a timely and professional manner
  • · Complete year end processes
  • · Produce and analyse MI reports from HR/Payroll systems to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • · Manage relationships between payroll and internal and external stakeholders whilst working to resolve payroll queries.
  • · Ensure time and attendance data is correct
  • · Ensure payroll is compliant with policies and legislation
  • · Supporting general workload of Finance team as and when required with tasks such as but not limited to:
 
  • Accounts receivable & payable support
  • Updating and distributing various daily, weekly and monthly reports
  • Maintaining and processing daily bank postings on the system
  • Completing weekly and monthly bank reconciliations – identifying and rectifying any variances
  • Assisting with the financial audits as required
  • General ad hoc finance duties
  • Involvement in various finance projects as and when required
  • General admin duties as required
  • Maintaining statutory financial documents
Education & experience - the successful candidate MUST:
  • Have proven payroll experience and knowledge of complex payroll gained in a similar position (knowledge of Access payroll software is desirable)
  • Have up to date knowledge of payroll legislation
  • Have a relevant payroll qualification or be studying towards (CIPP) (desirable, but not essential)
  • Knowledge of pensions, including auto-enrolment.
  • Experience of year end processes and tax changes
  • Understanding of PAYE, National Insurance, SSP, SMP and RTI
  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • Experience gained in Payroll software change (desirable, but not essential)
